The next big milestone for FSD is 11. It is a significant upgrade and fundamental changes to several parts of the FSD stack including totally new way to train the perception NN.

From AI day and Lex Fridman interview we have a good sense of what might be included.

- Object permanence both temporal and spatial
- Moving from “bag of points” to objects in NN
- Creating a 3D vector representation of the environment all in NN
- Planner optimization using NN / Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS)
- Change from processed images to “photon count” / raw image
- Change from single image perception to surround video
- Merging of city, highway and parking lot stacks a.k.a. Single Stack

Lex Fridman Interview of Elon. Starting with FSD related topics.

Here is a detailed explanation of Beta 11 in "layman's language" by James Douma, interview done after Lex Podcast.

Here is the AI Day explanation by in 4 parts.

Here is a useful blog post asking a few questions to Tesla about AI day. The useful part comes in comparison of Tesla's methods with Waymo and others (detailed papers linked).

It's really a matter of perspective

I was using 11.7.4.3 in the rain at night yesterday, and it blows my mind that it works as well with low visibility (highway recently repaved and reflective in the night rain) as it does on a clear day

Tbh, fsd still blows my mind routinely, as a software and tech guy

Yes, it may seem like L4 is far away, but for me, it's closer than we think

It's a matter of individual perspective and value system.

I quickly got over the mind blown phase after reality set it with all the ways it scares the living bejeepers out of the family and I. A living on the edge feeling is great at the amusement park or Halloween haunted house but not at all appropriate for a daily driver assistance feature. For me the best compromise is using FSD as an old school cruise control where it doesn't need to make many decisions or piss off other drivers.

Hopefully things improve but I'm not seeing it with v11.x.x and am not holding my breath.

If you use it with family, just stalk disengage in the routine flailing situations

As for unnecessary lane changes, I often use minimal lane changes

Noticed that virtually no-one with 11.4.8.1 is getting any update at all. @jebinc told me he had an inside track that said it's because we're all getting v12.
I noticed this last night when the .4 rollout was starting to finish installations. Same thing this morning. Some cars on the development branch have gotten .2. Part of me wonders if Tesla isn't holding back the bulk of the development branch for something. Maybe just 11.4.9.1.

Sorry to see/hear about your disappointment. I used to be very up beat about all things Telsa, but that eroded over time from a never-ending string of disappoints and cheap parlor tricks, touted as “mind blowing,” that just are not reliable or practically usable. And, to add insult to injury, Telsa leaves them in that state for years. For example; smart summon, FSD, auto wipers, ARNC, etc. The list of disappointments is long.
Thanks for your reply, yes the parking functions are a big disappointment, I called to cancel the vehicle and was assured both verbally and in writing in Dec 22 by Tesla UK that the features would be reinstated and working by the new year. Having it in writing I replied that I would accept the vehicle, its coming up to a year now and have a meeting with my solicitor in January 24 to discuss the vehicle sale under the sale of goods act.

Because everyone knows by now that the more you spent on your car and FSD, the greater the shafting is. It is known.
I concur, but you may be, "pissing into the wind," as there is still a large following (here on TMC) that would defend everything Tesla/Elon - "There's no shafting, this was meant to be.... It's beta and we signed up knowing this from day one.... If you don't like it, sell your car... the problem is you, not Tesla or what Elon says..." Right.... o_O

Golden rule of buying a Tesla is never, ever, ever buy one with the promise of X or Y feature coming soon. Only ever buy one knowing what it comes with today.

It gives an illusion that there’s “only” X amount of downloads going out when in reality it can be Z so you could be discouraged from using your once per 24hr check.
I keep seeing people stressing about 'burning their daily check.' First, it's not clear whether that makes any difference at all in how fast you get the update. Beyond that, is it really that big of a deal that you have to wait an extra day? Yeah, there may be some new features coming but I've been driving my car as it is for the last few months and even the wipers haven't make it underivable.

Yes, you can only fool once, our second car is a Fiat La Prima 500e, my son has a Polestar and my other son has a KIA electric that three sales that Tesla lost, whilst I like the Tesla, do not trust the companies lies and decrepit, so could not recommend.

Sadly, it seems the culture at Tesla now seems to have taken on the same misleading prospective customers approach that its CEO employs. Please let us know how your solicitor views the "purported contract" (referenced written response) you are referring to. I suspect they will view it as, "non binding" as Tesla has some of the best lawyers on the planet for stuff like this (and to keep Elon out of jail).

It has been documented here 1000's of times before, that "burning the check," does nothing to get your download sooner.

Well, maybe.... I bought a Plaid with Radar and USS, and they physically disconnected my radar - and without my consent (during a SC visit for another matter). Next, USS may be disabled and replaced with "High Fidelity Parking".... So, even if we buy the car with features (based on what it has at that point), is no guarantee that they will remain...

The versions are successive. Unless the people stuck on 11.4.8.1 are getting 2023.44.30.2.69 It seems like we would all get V12 unless the people getting the holiday update now are just bad drivers that Tesla doesn’t want to help teach V12 model and current 11.4.8.1 will get 2023.38.420 or something.

They did state that it’s important to feed data from good drivers to the model.
