I'm officially off the books for Signature P85+. Number 1 Model S reservation holder in Aus just went way down the list as today I confirmed a switch to the P85D. My brother has opted to stick with his original reservation. Hopefully he and other early reservation holders will receive cars before Christmas.

I hope that once Tesla have opened their first two service centers in Australia —and now that RHD production is already set up — Tesla's delivery date estimates will be a lot more accurate. Anyone taking bets on whether the P85D will be delivered in June?!

Guess I'd better change my avatar pic. Signature red no longer available to me, so I've gone with grey!

Given your position in the queue, that can't have been an easy choice. Congrats and welcome to the P85D club. :)

They are just taking more care with Dborn's car.

I wonder if any car will actually be shipped until all the Sigs are ready? Not sure how many Sigs there are but we know of someone who is number 32...I guess there are no more than 50.

I don't know how many make up an economic shipment, I assume there is an optimum number?

Does anyone know how they are shipped? I assume they would be containerised?

I understand the first one or two currently in country were FLOWN out!!! huge cost!! Given the port of shipping, it seems unlikely that they will come out on a RO-RO ship. So, that leaves containers. There are specialised containers which can do a double decker for cars, probably the most economic way, since shipping costs are volume based not weight based (as in cubic metres). 2 cars in one container does not cost more than a single car in a container. Using the R-Rak system in a 40ft container. With R-Rak 4 cars per container!!

On a cruise ship maybe  On a cargo ship it's probably more like 3 weeks transit port to port.
I checked - it's 19 days from LA to Sydney by container ship. You'd need to add in time at each end for customs etc, so around a month plus the local time to pre-deliver. Generally cars are shipped covered in all kinds of protecting films and goop that must be cleaned off.

Standard container, two cars each for all overseas transportation. At least, that's how I was told it was done in June 2014. "Overseas" in this case also includes Hawaii. Back then, there was an area in the factory where they lined up the cars for container loading. Banners at the head of each queue read "Honolulu", "Tilburg", "Drammen".

I just got confirmation that my D is in the production queue, and my old order has dropped off the system. Given I've been told the earliest delivery is June, I guess the queue is a long one. ;)
It seems that there have been lots of transfers to D in the States, so much so, that delivery times have shortened by about a month. Since we will have had our launch, perhaps that will translate over here too? Anyway, good luck to you!
