More good news (and good communication) for me from Tesla:

Your car is ready!! It's getting passed to logistics in the morning. Could take up to 2
days to get on a truck. Then the 10-15 days to Dania Beach where it'll
go through one last inspection and detail which we like to allocate 2-3
days for.

Just for the record, every car has its own story. Yours came through
the final stages quickly, others take longer. The important thing is we
make sure every car leaving the factory meets our strict quality
standards.

[I responded, and got this reply]

Thank you for being patient with us, we will get our communication nailed
down and now [your DS] will let you know when the car arrives at Dania.
When I get an estimate from logistics (very hard) I'll let him know an
estimated ETA. From what I've witnessed take it with a grain of salt
because they often tell us it'll take 7-10 days and ends up taking 15.
Let's round up :)

I love many things about these emails -- they were unsolicited, they were very honest about the timeframes, and they set up an under promise/over deliver situation where I have (more or less) a worst case scenario date, and anything closer in time will now be a pleasant surprise.

I realize that my "constructive criticism" may have garnered some particular attention from Tesla, but I have to say that if they can provide this kind of communication to those that want it, it will go a long way towards easing some of the concerns that many of us have had over the past couple of months. Having someone in HQ handling communications is much smarter, not only because he's able to communicate while the DS spends days at a time out of the office doing deliveries, but providing such a refreshing and honest assessment of things (e.g., 7-10 days probably too short an estimate) is fantastic, and exactly what I've been looking for all along. Better late than never! Now I hope every Sig (and eventually the Rs and Ps) get the same level of attention if they want it.

Oh, and I got two more pictures. Any ideas where this is in the factory?

Update: my Delivery Specialist emailed me today (unsolicited) to let me know my car is "moving along the assembly line" (no specifics on what stage) and also gave me my VIN, #722. Window 10/25 - 11/8 still stands. Getting closer!

And you now have the highest confirmed VIN. DrComputer saw 700's on the line last week, so it may be done as early as this week! Depends on a lot of things I'm sure, but at least it's a good sign!

I'm Sig Performance #904. My window of delivery was October 27 through November 9 but got the news last week that my car will be delayed 2 weeks. Seeing that Sig #700 is just rolling off the assembly line it appears I'm in the first phases of the "string a long" I've heard of. Two weeks longer I can wait but any longer and I'll just be another increasingly bitter customer. I hate that and hope it won't come to pass because I love being a member of those first purchasing this amazing car. Since signing up and plunking down my $50K I have only received a handful of unsolicited communications giving me updates. However when I have had questions I would get a response in a day or so from a very helpful knowledgable young man. Calls have been helpful as well. The point is that we all can't wait for an email from Tesla; any email. We want better personalized service!

It's not the waiting, no, it is the waiting but most of the issues have to do with the fact that no one is proactively communicating with each customer. This is purely a customer service/communication problem. We are all loyal, first adopters and there should be a system in place that assigns a person responsible for communicating proactively with each and every of the first 1000 signature holders. 10 people 100 customers. Pretty simple. Mostly, we are starving for information and a "little touch and feel" would be helpful.

I would make it a very high priority to make and keep these first customers happy and informed on a regular basis. Then, incorporate that successful system to later reservation holders and keep the communications rolling. We all feel as though we are on a "need to know" basis, not a valued "in the know" member of the first 1000 Teslas S owners. This is not rocket science Mr. Musk.

I feel for you guys but you are yet again ranting in the wrong thread. Can you take it over to the delivery concerns thread so that we don't have to sift through all these personal stories about how bad communication has been to figure out what the latest delivery news is?

Appreciate it.

I think you're fighting a losing battle there. Deliver updates, at this point, are going to be filled with stories of delivery failing to happen and subsequent unhappiness and discussion. The best way for this to go away is simply for Tesla to communicate dates and hit them.

I agree with this. It may have been a bold attempt to have two threads, but it will never work. I've moderated fora for a long time :)

ckessel is right. Moderators will do our best but a changed or failed delivery date also a delivery update.

P.S. I did move a few posts that were discussion only. They went here - Model-S-Delivery-Issues-and-Communication-Concerns Also updated that thread title to encourage "communication" discussions going there. Posts on production rates went here.

Josh,

I'm sincerely happy that things are working out for you, but it wasn't just Tesla that noticed your "constructive criticism".

2012 Tesla Model S Signature Series: Is It Worth The Premium?

The frustrated Signature owners seem to be mostly those in the middle of the pack, who are now watching their early delivery advantage fade.

Middle of the pack

One of them, Arnold Panz, of Miami, Fla., had this to say on the Tesla Motor Club forum:

The fact that we, as Sig holders, have gotten absolutely no special treatment has been a huge miss. (We) were mostly Tesla's truest of true believers, plunking down $40,000 for a car that we had no guarantee would ever be made, let alone be a great car. How was that blind faith rewarded? I'm still trying to figure that out.

I just got a call this morning with a message about arranging a delivery date for my signature performance, res #1077. The message said that we'd be looking at sometime shortly after November 16th. I haven't yet gotten a follow up email, or a VIN#.

I don't know how they are grouping production sequences by options selected, but mine is pearl white, body colored roof, white leather, obeche matte, paint armor, no spoiler, and rear-facing seats.

I really Enjoy that picture, you should upload a high res one In the picture thread so I May get a new wallpaper!

+1...this got added to my wallpapers folder, but a hi-res version would be great...

Thanks! I've just posted 2880x1920 resolution versions of that photo and a couple new ones over on the owners photos thread.

Did you get a range of dates, or just the one? I'm going to put it down as 11/16-11/23 for now.
