Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I told myself I would just sit back and relax , but I've been watching this ship come down the coast for the past couple of days; checking the weather forecast and wind conditions. :D

If only Tesla would get more of us Canberrans sorted, because I'm sure they have to book the truck deliveries somewhat in advance. Being perpetually in limbo sucks. I've already booked in work for all of September because I don't think mine is going to make it by then. (probably on the Melina) we will see...

Meowsers, if your car is in the country by then it might make it onto a transporter coming to Canberra soon. We have a tentative delivery date of week starting 23 September and we suspect the transporter will come down the end of the week before 23rd. The last transporter to Canberra arrived on a Friday night. Fingers crossed!

I think they would have contacted me for that date if it was going to happen! Anyways, approval from Macquarie is expiring first week of October and at this rate I'm not sure I care enough to get it re-submitted or extended. Starting to be very over this process/delivery experience.

Well, I had my hopes up for a Sep 9th home delivery which they confirmed by phone last Friday. Then it slipped to the 11th (today) which was even updated on the Tesla.com order page. Then radio silence and now I've just been called to say it's still in Sydney and getting on a truck this afternoon but won't be here until Monday 16th* and that a truck driver will call ahead 1.5 hours before arriving.
*I'm 8.5 hours drive from Sydney.
From what you wrote here that they are putting it on truck today and it will arrive on 16th, It sounds a lot longer that 8.5 hours. More like 5 days.

Am I strange in that if they offered me a test drive I'd refuse? 3, S or X.

I want my first electric car drive to be my car ..

Even if the lovely couple across the road from me offered me a ride in their Kona EV, I'd knock it back until I get my car!

I've read enough over the last 3 years to know there is no way I'd drive the car and go 'this is *sugar*!".

I'm sure it'll bug me for a couple of weeks .. creep on or off, regen accelerator (I'm used to coasting and taking foot off accelerator), indicator stalk on the wrong side etc but I'm sure will quickly become accustomed.

I hadn't driven a manual in a few years and had the opportunity to drive one .. it was all 'automatic', didn't miss a beat. Didn't have to think about it. We can adjust to different environments and car formats quite easily.

Even in my automatic I have (drive) normal mode and cruise control mode. I use cruise control mode 90% of the time. Except in stop-go traffic (not traffic aware). I think I will get used to AP pretty quickly (and its quirks)!

Yes, you are strange [!] ...and so am I!

When I queued in 2016 for registering for the Model 3, Tesla staff took me in a Model S for a short trip to a nearby shopping centre, where they were displaying some cars. Not really a test drive and not really required to make my decision to get a Model 3.

I agree that you quickly get used to different cars. I am almost certain, that my biggest gripe might be with the somewhat restricted view through the rear-view mirror (I m coming from a Toyota Corolla Seca, hatch, which has very open view out the back). Some say that their "fix" is to rely on rear-view camera. I will probably also miss having indicator lever on the right hand side of the steering wheel.

Perhaps famous last words, but I cannot picture myself putting Shadowfax up for sale some time in November, just because I cannot live with one thing or the other that I had not anticipated.

Just to expand one that, apparently in the UK, their Tesla site explicitly excludes after market fitting of a tow bar.
That is not exclusively UK issue. it is a EU legislation that does not allow adding tow bar after. I spoke with Tesla sales in Brisbane and they said that this is not an issue in AU. They are already adding tow bars here for Model X after delivery and will have no issues adding them to Model 3 once the tow bars come in stock here. They could not verify however when that would be. And this was not in writing just verbal conversation.

I've been reading many comments here about Tesla's poor communication, and this fits within that perhaps, but IF a manager somewhere could give this 30 seconds consideration, maybe they should publish it on their website. At least ONE more sale would be guaranteed, and by the way, I'd prefer after-market as I'd rather not pay the extra LCT on the tow bar.

How was the delivery/collection process?
Not who you replied to but I have also picked up mine.

Process is: you check in at the front desk, they then sit you in a waiting area before your delivery specialist collects you. They then do a very quick tour of the car (10mins) and then ask you to sign an iPad to accept it. You then just drive off.

Yeh I've been told a few times "It's going on the truck today" so I'm not entirely convinced yet :) Either that or now it's one of several deliveries along the east coast.

Out of curiosity, do you pickup guys pay a delivery fee on the invoice? It's not insignificant.

I have not got the final invoice, but the Order agreement has:
Delivery Fee $875
That is for delivering it from US to Australia though.

If by rego papers, you're referring to the form you need to fill out to register the vehicle, I got those nearly two weeks ago on the 28th August. I sent them an email stating I had already paid in full and could they send me the registration papers. On the papers it had the autonexus address in canning value listed, that's how I found out about their location.

I wouldn't stress too much about this. as i say i had those papers done two weeks ago, but I'm still not scheduled in to the 20th (was the 16th, but I wasn't available on that day).
ok Andygen21, thanks...Hopefully the rego papers arrive a few days before scheduled delivery of 17th else I'll start bugging them. My VIN appeared on my account page today under the order number...its not much, but some sort of indication of progress. T-6 days and counting.

Got very excited when my mobile told me I had a call from Melbourne (my closest delivery centre), but it was just a scammer offering me the opportunity to be cheated out of my own money.

Sigh. Each day starts full of optimism, but ends up more like:

Has anyone with a LR AWD order gotten a delivery date yet? I wasn't able to see any in the VIN tracking spreadsheet.
That's my order, and no, I don't have a delivery date. Nobody with a LR AWD has, to the best of my knowledge (and I've been keeping a close eye out for it, since that would be strongly indicative of my delivery date.)

Unlike surf, I need my car sooner rather than later - currently driving my mother's Holden Cruze (yeurk - spit. Lousy car. It astounds me that anybody buys Holdens these days.) Hopefully there's a shipload (pun intended) of them on the ANL Warrnambool and we get our dates soon...
