The next big milestone for FSD is 11. It is a significant upgrade and fundamental changes to several parts of the FSD stack including totally new way to train the perception NN.

From AI day and Lex Fridman interview we have a good sense of what might be included.

- Object permanence both temporal and spatial
- Moving from “bag of points” to objects in NN
- Creating a 3D vector representation of the environment all in NN
- Planner optimization using NN / Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS)
- Change from processed images to “photon count” / raw image
- Change from single image perception to surround video
- Merging of city, highway and parking lot stacks a.k.a. Single Stack

Lex Fridman Interview of Elon. Starting with FSD related topics.

Here is a detailed explanation of Beta 11 in "layman's language" by James Douma, interview done after Lex Podcast.

Here is the AI Day explanation by in 4 parts.

Here is a useful blog post asking a few questions to Tesla about AI day. The useful part comes in comparison of Tesla's methods with Waymo and others (detailed papers linked).

Phantom braking on the highway almost killed me last night - I had to floor my Model Y to avoid being rear-ended by a car that scrambled to brake. There was no car speeding or slowing down next to mine, so the braking flabbergasted me. I was very confident about V11 until this incident.
How bad of a slowdown? I had a phantom slowdown this morning on the highway, no one was behind me, speed dropped from 72 to 66 quick.

The slowing down to 7-8mph while making certain turns has to go. This is worse on 11.4.9 than previous builds. Previous builds I knew what turns this would happen on, so at least I could anticipate it. It does it too often now. And the slow downs for other vehicles that pose no “threat” in adjacent lanes, or across the street has to go as well.

I didn't have time to check the speed before and after but it felt like a jolt. Then I saw through the rearview mirror the car behind me approaching fast, freaked out, and slammed the accelerator as hard as I ever could. If I had taken the time to look at the odometer I might not be here typing this today. I did save the dashcam recording once I collected myself, and will be reviewing what the heck happened when I have a minute.

More detail, it is only included in the NHTSA report because someone submitted a claim that ADAS was in use. Tesla couldn't verify it because the data hadn't been uploaded to Tesla's servers and was not recoverable. (The only two people that could know if ADAS was active were the two people in the vehicle, both of which were very drunk, and only one survived. And the survivor couldn't really remember anything, and wasn't the driver.)

So it sounds like anyone can submit one of these reports for any collision and force the OEM to include it in the report showing ADAS was active. It just goes to show that that NHTSA data/reporting is completely worthless.

Interesting that the wife said that he had FSD and used it often. Musk said that it was never downloaded. What to believe?
There is a thread for this. It is all fairly straightforward. Had FSD, but did not have FSD Beta since that was very limited.

Safety Score system may be to blame! 😉 (Immediate wide release would have prevented inappropriate AP use.)
