Wiki Model S Delivery Update

@dsm363: Legally, I'm not 100% sure they can, and Tesla is apparently being very careful about this. Technically my sale is an internet sale from California. The Delivery Specialist cannot "deliver" the car to me. A third-person delivers the car and I sign for it, and then the Delivery Specialist provides the overview. A Tesla employee cannot be the person to give me the car nor (presumably) can they give me the title (as it could have implications about where the car was actually purchased). Perhaps the driver of the truck can? I am the first person to say this is ridiculous and a waste of money (paying two people to deliver the car when one could do, as they do in most other states), but there you go. Tesla is pretty much at the mercy of outdated state rules.

Same problem here in Mass. (I just got the call earlier today to start going over some of the logistics surrounding delivery in which this same information was shared with me)

Yeah, I'm SSL 162 and my VIN is 112. (SSL 152 lives near me, and should get VIN 111 some time this week).

Or at least, I'm told my VIN will be 112, if they ever find the transport truck that has my car...it's been driving around for about a week, but still not made it to Seattle, and they don't know where it is or when it will get here. I'm not in a hurry, but I really don't understand why they told me the car would be delivered last Saturday if their transport company doesn't track the vehicles or guarantee a delivery date. Several other local owners have also missed their delivery date for the same reason.

UPDATE: Tesla called, and apparently I misunderstood...the "lost" truck was rerouted before it picked up my car, not after. So my car had just been sitting at the factory. It's on a truck now.

I've had this experience. My car (not an S) had to travel a couple thousand miles to me and somehow was *lost* for a period of about two weeks. Trucking is sort of like cyberspace or the Bermuda Triangle, only sometimes you get lucky and things are found again.

Hang in there. Someone is probably just joy riding in it for a bit.

Just finalized my delivery appointment -- this Friday Sept 28th in Los Angeles. Special Signature #208 -- non performance, pano roof, white paint with paint armor. Very excited!

Also, I was at the event this evening in Hawthorne where Elon unveiled the supercharger program. A New York Times reporter drove from Lake Tahoe to Los Angeles today -- 500 miles -- in a Model S with two 45 minute stops at supercharger locations which had been secretly built and have now been announced. There were about 15 Roadsters and 4 or 5 Model S in the parking lot driven to the event by guests; plus another 4 or 5 Model S used in the event.

Got a call from TM HQ last night. They're sending final cost paperwork today. They asked that I send a check for the amount due via fedex, or wire transfer funds. Once they have proof of payment, my car (VIN # 184) will be loaded with others heading to SoFla and will arrive "by the end of the week or early next." Of course, that's assuming that the truck doesn't get lost.

I should have my Model S next week. WooHoo!!

Grats! That's also good news for those waiting on that console!

Congratulations! I was told that even in covered transport the cars get dirty and that (in FL at least) they're doing a complete detailing and check over prior to delivery so don't be surprised if it's in the store at Dania for a couple of days before they'll let it out.

For mine at least, it was more of a quick wash at the delivery site. They had a mobile detailer guy there who spent about 10 min making it look good. If it's at a store, maybe they'll do more.

While waiting for my Roadster to arrive back in 2009, I called my rep and said why don't you give us the tracking number for each of the delivery trucks so we can watch "our" cars going cross country? He paused and said, dumb idea. I can't manage the email/phone traffic now, can you imagine what it would be like to field the calls every time the driver stopped to use the facilities of a truck stop? Six people would be contacting me, asking why is the truck stopped, was there a wreck, is my car okay, etc? I thanked him and said I was sorry I'd bothered him. It was almost like he was saying we were not mature patient enough to handle the truth. Having watched the start of these deliveries play out, this time from the sidelines, I see what he was referring to.
