Supercharger - Klamath Falls, OR

I used this plug last May. It is located right behind the Chamber of Commerce building. Access is from the side street just north of the Chamber. Just use the driveway and jockey your car into position so that the cable reaches.

The 80A charger at the casino in McDermott is located near the rear entrance. I used that one too.

I have not done the math, but if you have dual chargers (or 72A capability), I would think that leaving Bend with a range charge would enable a 90-minute stop in Burns and another hour or so in McDermitt in order to reach Winnemucca with an 85 or larger.
If you are going to Winnemuca, you can go through Lakeview and top off there at an RV park there. Hwy 140 is designated as the Winnemuca to the Sea Highway. You would need an 85 or greater.

Not sure what you mean about a designated "Winnemucca to the Sea Highway" lol, but it's definitely fastest to go through Burns when travelling from Bend to Winnemucca and others in this thread have pointed out that there is a fairly fast and FREE level 2 charger in Burns so I can't see why going through Lakeview instead would make sense.

PS the beginning of your post sounded like a song lyric and then it went in a much different direction lol...

I was totin' my pack along the dusty Winnemucca road,
When along came a semi with a high an' canvas-covered load.
"If you're goin' to Winnemucca, Mack, with me you can ride."
And so I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside.
He asked me if I'd seen a road with so much dust and sand.
And I said, "Listen, I've traveled every road in this here land!"

Because if you only have the 40A charger, like I and some others do, Burns is NOT faster because the distance is longer. 40 amps is 40 amps, whether from the station in Burns or from the RV park around Lake View. Therefore shorter distance makes quite a difference in the travel time if you are having to charge at about half the rate you drive. I just mapped Bend to Winnemucca both ways. The route through Burns is 416 miles. The route through Lake View is 377 miles.

The 40A charging is probably on 208V, which is about 25 mph charging rate, so that extra 39 miles of distance is a little over one and a half hours of extra charging time--not faster.

*SIDEBAR* This is why it would be REALLY nice to have just one single Supercharger in Eastern Oregon anywhere.

Highway 140 was called the Winnemucca to the Sea Highway when it was commissioned in the 1960's. If you are traveling West on I 80, The Winnemucca to the Sea Highway was the closest route to the Pacific Ocean.

I have family and friends in Lakeview and would stop for a visit. It is closer via Lakeview. If there was a Supercharger in Lakeview it would be faster.

It is Lakeview not Lake View

Bend -> Burns -> Winnemucca is only 354 miles so my point stands. Not sure which mapping software you are using. Maybe the awful nav that comes with the Tesla :)

Apologies if that is too many pics. I stopped in at the worksite this afternoon, took some pics and talked to the two guys working. They were friendly but couldn't answer the obvious questions due to their NDA.

Looked like they were working on the trench behind the bollards (I see 7 in the pic, but I assume there is or will be a drive-in for a total of 8). I didn't see any of the electric wiring including inside the bollards, but I'm not an electrician or anything and I didn't get too nosy as they were busy working so who knows. As you can see one of the above pics is of what appears to be the transformer pad.

The exact location is due north of the Fred Meyer (on the edge of the Fred Meyer parking lot), near the Fred Meyer gas station (just barely northeast of it). If you zoom in, the cone on supercharge.info is mostly accurate, but the actual location is a bit east of where it is placed.

There is not a ton to do in the immediate vicinity, but in towns like K-Falls I guess we will take what we can get! Of course there is shopping and groceries in the Fred Meyer. Otherwise just the Peet's coffee (inside Fred Meyer), a laundromat and apparently a hair salon. There's also a Jiffy Lube across the street :)
PLUS EV thank you so much for the pictures. Great job with the updates on the K-Fall SC. I've been keeping my eyes opened for the good news as we are planning a trip from SF Bay Area to Bend on our way up to Seattle in May/Jun. Shasta SC to Bend SC would be pushing it in our P85 and I've even contemplatied driving our ICE car. This is now set!

I used Google Maps for plotting both, but you're right, I don't know what it did yesterday that showed 416. I had just selected Bend and Winnemucca and checked to see if I would need to pick an intermediate point to force the route, but it went through Burns by default and showed 416. I have no explanation for that. It shows 352 now through Burns, and the lower route still shows 377. I retract my objection then.

I'm more of a gambler than most, but I think if you are careful, you'd be fine with a P85 doing a range charge at Mount Shasta and driving the speed limit in nice weather (which is likely that time of year). And like I said the 80 amp Level 2 charger at OIT was easy to find, FREE and convenient so topping off there could ease the range anxiety.

Of course the odds are strong that this supercharger will be finished in time for your trip so that will be the best option :)

I did a range charge at Shasta, drove the speed limit with heat off (40 degrees outside) and arrived at Bend SC with 10% left in my 90D. Note you can always use Sunriver as a backup, it has two destination chargers @ 80A.

I'm not sure about the way back though, since it was snowing and 30 mph crosswinds when I left Sunriver.

Yep can't wait for my first trip to Bend, now I can do a partial charge at Shasta, and a partial at Klamath. Total time will actually be less even with stopping twice (due to faster charging at lower soc)
Sun River is even sketchy in my range charged 85 (253m @ 100%)

Thanks for the suggestions PLUS EV and mr blue sky. I think Blup85's plan will work nicely for me too. Really looking forward to the trip to Bend. I'll make sure to report back with pictures to share with you all and give back to the forum here. Great group of people. Many thanks.

That's true most of the time. Any time chargers are more than ~50 or so miles apart it's faster total trip time to charge at both.

Obviously, there are a LOT of variables...that 50 miles could easily be 75 or more, based on the known variables (how far out of the way you need to go, weather, battery capacity/charge speed).

Looks like it's almost ready. Picture courtesy of my aunt and cuz.

Thanks a ton for the update elektro. We will be driving thru Klamath Falls this Friday, March 3 on our annual escape to Pismo Beach. It's a long haul for our 85D from Bend to Shasta so we plan to swing by the KF Supercharger with our fingers crossed and will use OIT as a back up plan. We will take pictures and update on Friday, if the weather cooperates.
