My 5th referral took delivery and got confirmation of a 2nd powerwall 2 in the loot box. My 4th referral ordered when the PW2 was the 4th prize and didn’t get my 5th referral until the PW2 was the 5th prize.

Do you get confirmation immediately after the referral takes delivery? My 3rd referral took delivery but I didn't get any confirmation on the wheels. Granted the referral code was switched to mine after delivery.
Are you able to actually redeem it? We go through the steps and on the last screen, it still says "Tap to redeem award". If we go back to the initial My Awards screen, it still says "Tap to redeem award".

They took delivery yesterday and it showed up in my lootbox today.
Same here, I tapped to redeem and filled out the info but still says tap to redeem. Not worried about it, I can wait until battery production ramps up to fulfill demand. In the meantime they have better uses for those batteries (Puerto Rico and other large scale projects).
Yeah, not in any rush. My previous Powerwalls never allowed me to redeem them in the app. They still show as "Available starting March 2018" even though they were installed in July. Glad to hear you're seeing the same thing we are.

Congrats! I was also lucky like you and had my 5th referral just after it switched from 4th to 5th referral. My 5th referral (my mom) takes delivery this weekend.
However, one thing is weird: the order was made on the Sep 3rd, but they changed their order on Oct 10th to an identical inventory model which could be delivered earlier. The order date in my loot box for their order also changed to Oct 10th as well. After Sep 17th the prizes changed again, and for the 5th referral you don't get the powerwall anymore.
I asked the people from the referral program if they could clarify if I could still get my powerwall prize, since the order didn't change. My mom also gets free Supercharging because she ordered with my referral before Sep 17th. I haven't gotten an anwser back yet unfortunately. I hope they honour the Original order date for the referral prize, would suck that I get blocked from the powerwall just because the delivery date get pushed forward thanks to an identical delivery.
Anybody else had a similar case already happen?

How soon does a referral for Model 3 orders show up in your loot box? Is it immediate or when a person ordering receives a VIN?

You'll also see when it is delivered or if the order is cancelled. Note that the dates shown in the app differ from the dates in the dashboard. By using both the app and the dashboard, you can determine actual order and delivery dates.
Humm... Mine showed up immediately (or at least the following morning) after someone used my link to place their order.
