The next big milestone for FSD is 11. It is a significant upgrade and fundamental changes to several parts of the FSD stack including totally new way to train the perception NN.

From AI day and Lex Fridman interview we have a good sense of what might be included.

- Object permanence both temporal and spatial
- Moving from “bag of points” to objects in NN
- Creating a 3D vector representation of the environment all in NN
- Planner optimization using NN / Monte Carlo Tree Search (MCTS)
- Change from processed images to “photon count” / raw image
- Change from single image perception to surround video
- Merging of city, highway and parking lot stacks a.k.a. Single Stack

Lex Fridman Interview of Elon. Starting with FSD related topics.

Here is a detailed explanation of Beta 11 in "layman's language" by James Douma, interview done after Lex Podcast.

Here is the AI Day explanation by in 4 parts.

Here is a useful blog post asking a few questions to Tesla about AI day. The useful part comes in comparison of Tesla's methods with Waymo and others (detailed papers linked).

Waking your car up will also sometimes get the update.
Play with some buttons on the app or move the car a few feet.
No joy. It still says up to date as of 3 this afternoon. My experience has been that it doesn't check again for 24 hours.

I do think you are right, that sometimes it will update when the car is awake, without going to the software menu. But perhaps only if one has not been to that menu for a day or more. Who knows...

This is the same guy who said it would go into wide release “in a few weeks” last November…
First, understand how the traditional software development process works.

Then recognize Tesla is doing something *nobody* else has done before. No, not even Waymo or Cruise.

Recognize they will run into unexpected snags. Setbacks. Issues that will require rewrites. Then adjust your expectations accordingly.

At least some of the lucky ones are getting it by push, not by pull. I burned checks on the software tab yesterday morning on both our Y and our 3 and just got the "up to date" notice. But with no further attention from me after noon yesterday, my app posted a notification to my iPhone that the update was ready to install on my Y a minute before midnight MDT. Installing now. TeslaFi says the car woke up at 11:15 p.m., which may be when the download began. I was asleep at the time, and definitely had not recently touched anything in the car.

Anyone getting USS functionality on cars without it on this new update?

I don't think it's rolling out to anyone without USS yet. If you look at TeslaFi, only 2022 and older have received it. I think the USS were removed around October 2022, so while it's possible some model-year 2022 vehicles lack USS, the vast majority will be model-year 2023.

So Tesla may be running Tesla-Vision Park Assist in shadow-mode on vehicles with USS first, so they can measure the accuracy against actual USS measurements before rolling it out to the USS-less cars.
