Dave, one possible strategy is to sell calls initially only against 1/3 or 1/2 your shares and keep the other 1/2-2/3 for price appreciation, or if needed, calls can be sold against them as well, to help roll up and out if the initial calls sold go in the money.

Agree..the technicals will be taking a back seat over the next week due to new fundamental info being released (deliveries and gigafactory event)....some technical traders will be exiting their positions (short or long) due to the upcoming uncertainty...

Looks like the pullback to the 5 day MA and 200 day MA on the daily chart I alluded to yesterday is happening now. Need to hold above these 2 moving averages to maintain the trend. Weekly chart now forming a shooting star candle beneath the upper bollinget band and 100 week MA...consolidation...

Agree, but like you stated, in the absence of news or fundamentals, the technicals do play a role and serve as useful markers.

SP above the upper bollinger band on the daily chart with RSI above 70. Pullback to the 200 daily MA or 5 daily MA would be healthy.

NVDA has a monthly RSI of 95 and starting to look like an "eiffel tower" pattern on the monthly chart. It is also way above the upper bollinger band on the monthly chart. Please be careful. What Do You Really Know About Eiffel-Tower Patterns?

I have the 200 strike price, bought when TSLA was at ~255, so delta at the time was 0.78.

Those were the furthest out I could purchase in April of this year. If TSLA can demonstrate some SP appreciation in the next 3-4 months, I will be looking to roll to the 2019 LEAPS.

I hope you are right (as I am long Jan 18 calls) but I don't know. All the time frames I look at (with the caveat that I don't pay much attention to the intraday charts) show a broken SP, that unless it can quickly recover some key moving averages, IMHO, will continue to head lower.

TSLA SP now below all key simple moving averages (5, 10, 20, 50, 200) on daily, weekly and monthly charts as the slow bleed continues...a quick panic induced flush to the 150s followed by a hammer candle on high volume, would be preferable to this persistent slow drip...

Expect some resistance right here around 195 based on the weekly chart convergence of 1) 200 Week SMA 2) 10 Week SMA just above the 200 week SMA 3) down sloping trendline starting from the week of 8/1/2016. Monthly chart currently showing a nice hammer candlestick off the lower Bollinger band.

TSLA SP continues to look weak. From my experience, any sustained turnaround must start with TSLA recapturing both the 5 and 10 day SMAs and HOLDING it to allow the 5 & 10 day SMAs to start to point upwards. These down sloping short term moving averages have held TSLA in check since 10/28...

SP is now close to the 50 Month SMA which was breached once in Feb 2016 and is now testing the 200 Week SMA which was also breached once during the week of Feb 8 2016. Lower Bollinger band resides slightly lower below both moving averages. A hammer candlestick at these levels with good volume...

~205.5-206 is also the level of the downsloping 10 Week SMA on the weekly chart.

Here are the levels I am keeping an eye on for potential bottoms: Daily chart: Lower BB: ~193, july intermediate low ~190 Weekly chart: 200 week SMA ~ 190, lower BB ~186 Monthly chart: confluence of 50 Month SMA and lower BB ~178 to 180

Thanks Austin....I've been burned in the past with holding leaps too close to expiration with aapl...don't want to repeat that lesson with Tsla so will likely roll out of Jan 17s into 18s no later than July expiration...

It depends. Either it continues lower, or there will be a retest of the SMA 200. If tsla can get back above the SMA 200 in a relatively quick manner (1-3 days), then it should be ok (at least until earnings next week). If tsla tests the SMA 200 (could be several attempts to get back over it)...
